A 2nd consecutive victory for Castleford Tigers has seen them climb to the dizzy heights of 4th spot in the Engage Superleague Table. The victory was a result of an outstanding attacking display against Salford City Reds as the Tigers ran in 9 tries in a 52-16 win at The Jungle.

There were some great displays throughout the 17 in Amber & Black but special mention has to go to the industrious 2nd row pair of Brett Ferres and Stuart Jones whilst Brent Sherwin and Ryan McGoldrick stood out in attack.

Terry Matterson was forced in to a couple of changes as injuries ruled out both Liam Higgins and James Evans, Michael Wainwright starting on the wing whilst Dean Widders came in to take a place on the bench.

The Tigers started at a blistering pace with Kirk Dixon having a score ruled out for going into touch after good work from Michael Shenton, Richard Owen and Joe Westerman. The Tigers weren't kept out for long as a Salford knock on was punished in style with Sherwin sending Shenton in for a try which Dixon converted.

Cas continued to press and with only 7 minutes on the clock skipper Ryan Hudson sent Craig Huby crashing in from close range. Dixon again converted and the Tigers were 12-0 up. That lead was almost extended on 10 minutes when Sherwin's towering kick was completely misjudged by Reds full back Karl Fitzpatrick but Mitchell Sargent was ruled offside.

That lead was extended 3 minutes later when McGoldrick sent Sherwin racing through a gap and the scum half timed his pass perfectly to Hudson who raced in from 35 metres to score under the posts. Dixon was again on target although he was unable to add the extras to the next score as Richard Owen scored wide out after 20 minutes. Sione Faumuina was tackled close to the line but from the resulting play McGoldrick, Sherwin and Shenton combined to send the young winger in for his 1st of the game.

The lead was extended to 28-0 6 minutes later when Faumuina's short pass sent Westerman in from close range which Dixon again converted and by now the game was over as a contest.

To their credit Salford enjoyed a spell of pressure and when the ball was transferred to the left Mark Henry was forced into touch. They continued to press and 32 minutes former St. Helens centre Willie Talau jinked inside through some weak tackling for a try which John Wilshere converted. As half time neared Phil Leuluai offloaded to Malcolm Alker but his pass to Fitzpatrick was ruled to be forward and the break saw the Tigers hold a 28-6 lead.

Cas started the 2nd half as they had the 1st with Sherwin regathering his own short kick to send Kirk Netherton in for his 1st try for the club. Dixon was again on target and also added the extras to the try of the match when Shenton broke down the touchline before sending a pass inside to the supporting Sherwin who in turn found Owen with the winger scoring close to the posts. Immediately after the restart Huby and Ray Cashmere traded punches earning the pair a 10 minute stint and the sin-bin.

40-6 became 46-6 as McGoldrick broke from 40 metres out to round Fitzpatrick for a great individual try. Dixon was again on target and bagged his 8th late on as Cas passed the 50 point mark. A dropped ball on the Reds 10 metre line was picked up by Widders and the Aussie showed an impressive turn of speed to race in for the games final try.

In between Salford scored 2 tries of their own through Fitzpatrick and Henry with Wilshere adding a conversion.

A great night for Cas and a performance that would have delighted Coach Matterson. Next up is Catalans Dragons and the Tigers will head to France in confident mood as they chase a 3rd straight Superleague win, a feat they haven't achieved since 2003.
