General News CTSC Pledge to Gym
Posted by stevieb on Thursday, October 16 @ 12:22:50 BST (564 reads)

Castleford Tigers’ Head Coach, Terry Matterson was extremely surprised on Tuesday night at the CTSC (Supporters Club) Q&A event when he was asked to collect a substantial cheque on behalf of the club.

The sum, to the value of £2,500 was donated by the CTSC as a gesture to the club as they look to refurbish the Gymnasium on site at the Jungle.

Graham Smith, Secretary of CTSC said: “A few weeks back, the CTSC committee got together with Chief Exec’ Richard Wright and members of the board to discuss ways in which we as an organization could help support the club in a way in which our members could see the results of their hard-earned, donated cash. When this suggestion came from Terry we were happy to help. We feel by funding the renovation of the gym, we are increasing the chances of a successful season next year and at the end of the day, that is what every member wants to see.”

The cheque presented to Terry was the first of two payments to be made by CTSC towards the renovation of the gym, totaling over £5,000. Items to arrive in the gym, as a result of the funding include a floor specially designed for the lifting of weights, new apparatus such as rowing machines and a complete facelift of the building which Terry believes will be an important aspect as the players return to training next month:

“It is important that when the players do return to the club, they see an improvement in our structure throughout the club. Now when they enter the gym, thanks to CTSC, this will be the case.”

Both Richard & Terry answered questions from the audience on a range of subjects ranging from the New Stadium development at Glasshoughton to the 9 exciting new signings soon to arrive at the club including; former fans’ favorite, Ryan Hudson (Hooker), New Zealand World Cup squad member, Rangi Chase (Stand-off) and Bradford Bulls duo James Evans and Chris Feather.

Meanwhile, with the team set to return to pre-season training next month, Terry expects the team to play an even more pro-active role in the community:

“We feel this is a very important duty of a professional Rugby League club and all of our players are keen to get involved. I remember from back home (in Australia), the links between the professional club and the junior clubs and schools were very strong and we are working to replicate that here.”

Supporters Club members will also be giving the gym a lick of paint and anyone wishing to volunteer should contact Graham on 07961 843913 or email secretary@ctsc.org.uk
